Pride of
San Juan Boosts Production with New Yuma Plant

- October 29, 1998 This year, when Pride of San Juan (POSJ) moves
its operation to Arizona for the winter growing season, they'll
set up shop in a new 18,000 square foot state-of-the-art processing
and cooling plant in Yuma. The plant is scheduled to go on line
November 15 with production to begin the day after Thanksgiving.
"The requests
for our specialty products are so great," says Stephen Wyrick,
POSJ's Chief Executive Officer, "that we've had to grow by
leaps and bounds in an effort to keep up with demand." In addition
to the new Yuma plant, POSJ has increased production of their edible
herbs and flowers with plantings the new Yuma plant.
Pride of San Juan,
a leading specialty lettuce grower/packer/shipper is one of the
fastest growing specialty lettuce, herb and edible flower businesses
in operation in California and Arizona.
The company carved
a niche for itself with the value-added food service markets by
producing quality specialty lettuce as well as edible herbs and
flowers and specialty vegetable such as radicchio and bell peppers.
Recently, the company successfully ventured into the retail marketplace
with the sale of 1-pound spring mix and 1 1/2-pound baby spinach
bags to club stores.
Still on tap for
this fast-growing company is the addition of 20,000 square feet
to its existing San Juan Bautista plant, which triples the size
of the company's processing and cooling capabilities.
